The Cohesive Wedding Experience

You're engaged. You've established your budget, venue, and date. Pat yourself on the back! I'm very proud of you!

Now- do yourself and your partner a favor, and don't mention the wedding for a whole week. Have a date night, and don't talk about the colors you were thinking of, or the dress your great aunt Gertrude wanted you to wear. Spend time with the person you want to spend forever with. Let me know when you're done. I'll be here........

......

Good! Where did you go for dinner? Was it delish? Fab!

We went to our fav brew pub Martha's Exchange in Nashua, NH

Back to business. The most pressing thing to determine right now is the feel of your wedding. How do you want to feel at your wedding? How do you want your guests to feel at your wedding? For me, I wanted guests to be comfortable, but I wanted it to still feel like a big deal. My catch phrase (that every single vendor you talk to will ask) was "elegant but not stuffy". I didn't need monogrammed napkins or up lighting, but I sure as hell wasn't having jeans and hay bails (but if that's your thing, GO FOR IT! Your wedding should represent who you are as a couple!).

We're obviously very serious people.

Your venue will also be a big deciding factor in the feel of your wedding. We got married at a Vineyard. The ceremony would be in a gazebo overlooking the garden, and the reception was in an exposed beamed room with a wrap around balcony. See how satin, ballgowns, and formal wear just don't seem to fit the bill? With our venue, we could have gone full country. Hay bails, burlap, and mason jars were THE thing when I was wedding planning. But truthfully, Hubby and I have never been a fan of country. So why would we do something that wasn't us?

Instead we decided to run with the vineyard theme, without the grapes and vines. Wood details, reclaimed wine bottles, greens and yellows, soft, subtle, and comfortable. AKA- how everything else is in our home.

The reason I bring all this up now is because everything from here on out needs to fit this feel if you want a cohesive wedding experience. Now is the time to take your engagement pictures. Send out save the dates. Start stocking up on materials for the reception (if you are DIY-ing it). When interviewing vendors, you need to communicate this vision to them up front. Identify the silhouette you want for your gown. Should the men be in tuxes, or will suits be more appropriate?

Take your time with this. Communicate with your partner about what they are expecting, also. Spend hours on Pinterest (feel free to follow me too!)

Yes, that would indeed would be 9 different Pinterest Wedding Boards

What did you decide? Was it an easy decision? Was your partner totally on board, or had something else in mind? Tell me about it below!
